Attending Trump's Inauguration was Trash

I don't care what your ideology is, Washington DC during Trump's inauguration was trash. Even worse for the people that support Trump.
Upon arriving in DC on Sunday morning with the MAGA rally held at the Capitol One Arena, the line was too long to think about waiting. It was 11 AM and the rally started at 3 PM with the line stretching at least 10 city blocks. The rain was coming down and near freezing temperatures. Every five feet had a street vender try and sell memorabilia like $40 gold color plastic necklaces with Trumps face or hoodies with the words "Daddy's home."
Despite the sidewalks filled with tables of cheap merchandise, the streets were not open to pedestrians. One of the thousands of bored cops were sure to tell me to stay on the crowded sidewalks. Getting through to the starting point of the line was like walking through a labyrinth. At least there were lots of National Guard soldiers who could at least handle my jokes.
I can't tell you what happened inside. But outside featured the loudest and strangest people. Like a man in a tricornered hat singing God Bless America or anti-abortion protesters. Not sure who they were mad at? I guess that'll always be their thing.
I meet up with my friend Amanda Moore who had just published her article about a Trump inauguration official having been alleged to charity fraud. Makes sense because this event seems like it was planned by a fraudster.
The vibes did not feel like a group of proud Americas excited Trump was about to become President, it like being in some crude carnival that overcharges for everything. As the freezing rain turned to snow, I realized it was time to cut my losses and go inside.
By Monday's inauguration morning. The cold weather put up a great effort on keeping me out but the police on the metro did a better job. The metro police blocked the exit, making everyone take a transfer to exit the surface. A Trump supporter grumbled to me, "200,000 come to watch the inauguration and we are trapped underground."
There was no jumbotron to watch the ceremony. Some venues hosted parties but on the freezing street corners, there were plenty of people streaming Trump's speech on their phones.
After racking up a $30 bill on a Lime e-bike that wouldn't let me end the ride. I found the Proud Boys wondering around, even more bored than me. Dispersing without any orders from law enforcement. Turns out that if there is ever a civil war with Proud Boys, just put up a fence.
I heard Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin was at the Capitol One Arena, not like I could get close enough to the venue with barriers and cops everywhere. Just made me think about how Youngkin attempted to use tax-payer money to move the sports teams to Virginia.
Taking a trip up to see Trump's inauguration was a big waste. Trump's administration will seek to undo every policy under Biden (except maybe the increase in deportations.) I guess the last four years were also a waste of time. Feels like things are as much of trash as it was in 2020. But that won't stop me. I'll be back for day two like Sisyphus excited to watch the boulder roll down the hill again. Can't break my spirit.
