Starting the Virginia Legislative Session

Starting the Virginia Legislative Session
Republican Senate Caucus Press Conference on January 6, 2025 in Richmond, Virginia.

First thing first, I'm switching from Substack to Ghost. I am not happy with the direction that Substack is taking, specifically catering to weirdos, so I have moved all my newsletter articles over to Ghost.

Second of all, Virginia legislative session begins on Wednesday. I will be closely following criminal justice related legislation. Live threads on the Senate Committee Courts of Justice will happen Monday morning and Wednesday afternoon. Expect those threads on Bluesky and Twitter (also known as X, the everything app.)

On Monday afternoon, the Republican Senate Caucus held their first press conference. Their agenda included tax cuts by ending the car tax and tax on tips, funding material health, transphobic sports bans, and harsh penalties on fentanyl drug deals and illegal gun crimes. You know the usually stuff.

This session, my two biggest thing that I have on my radar is legislation on automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) and a bill about expanding the Attorney General's power to investigate supporters of terrorism. I hope to have updates on legislation involving ALPRs. I briefly spoke to Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell that he will be bringing new legislation this year on regulating how drivers are spied upon and that Republican Senator Bill Stanley was eager to support something.

Stay tuned and subscribe and find out what happens. Of course, I will also be covering the bizarre and various protest groups.
